TODAY'S INSIGHT

One man pretends to be rich, yet has nothing; another pretends to be poor, yet has great wealth. Proverbs 13:7

The key to understanding this verse is understanding that wealth here is not measured in material possessions, but in peace of mind. When you set out for shopping do you pretend to be rich by using your credit card, or do you pretend to be poor by only spending what you have available right now? Though the man that lives within his means may appear poor in a capitalist society, he is actually blessed. He can sleep at night without worry. He can be a blessing to others through tithes and offerings. He owes no debt but love. Whereas the man who pretends to be rich is actually buried under the illusion. One thing you should ask yourself each day is: Do your possessions really possess you?
